Born in Kolkata, Jayasri Burman completed her formal training in art from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan and the College of Visual Arts, Kolkata. She also took a formal course on printmaking under the guidance of Monsieur Ceizerzi in France. She also has a series of dedicated publications to her credit. Her works have been a part of several solo exhibitions which include galleries like Chitrakoot Gallery, Kolkata, Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai and Gallerie Ganesha, Delhi to name just a few. Jayasri Burman, though currently lives and works in New Delhi but has exhibited her artwork not just in India but across the globe which includes places like Delhi, Jaipur, Bhopal, Egypt, Paris, Germany, London, New York, Hong Kong, Switzerland and many other countries. She is also the recipient of ICON and Devi Awards and also the National Award and Certificate of Merit at the All India Youth Art Exhibition. She was also awarded by the College of Visual Arts in Tempera for outstanding merit in the annual exhibition. The Government of India released a series of commemorative stamps with her works on International Women’s Day 2007, which remains one of her prized achievements.
