Amitava

Amitava (b.1947,Delhi) graduated from College of Art,New Delhi (1972). Later joined as a lecturer at Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi (1974); he was also a visiting lecturer at College of Art and Women`s Polytechnic, New Delhi (1975-77). He was part of the new group and artists’ forum.In the Seventies, Amitava won the Lalit Kala Akademi’s national award. In 1989, he won a fellowship to study exhibition and graphic design in Germany.

Das has also co-curated a contemporary Indian art show titled ‘The Yellow Deity’ for the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and Museum of contemporary Art/Ludwig Museum, Budapest, Hungary. He is the recipient of the National Awards in 1976; fellowship from Federal Republic of Germany for advance exposure in 1989 and also has a film, a painters portrait been made on him by K.Bikram Singh for Doordarshan.
