Viraag Desai

Viraag Desai (b.1986,Kolkata) graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2009). Desai is also the recipient of two scholarships from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.He became the first Indian recipient of the Julius Baer Next Generation Art prize, among five other winning international artists (2023).
 
His group exhibitions include:  'Wanderlust' - J&K Gallery Arcadia, California (2010); 'Trip Tash' - Akar Prakar Gallery; 'Screenshots of Utopia' and 'Mapping Detours' - Chitrakoot Art Gallery (2013); 'The Tube Without Paint, A Fungal Lattice & The Bird That Never Flew Away'  - Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai; CIMA Awards show, Kolkata; ‘Uday’ - Akar Prakar Art Advisory, New Delhi (2016); ‘Affordable Art Fair’ - Hampstead; ‘The Painted Face’ -  Art Exposure, Kolkata  (2017); A Mechanical Eye - Art Exposure, Kolkata  (2020); ‘Memory Leaves’ - Art Exposure, Kolkata (2022) and India Art Fair, New Delhi (2023).
 
In 2019, Viraag Desai was involved in the production of the film 'Ghost of the Golden Groves' as Art Director. He has also participated in Chitrashala Residency at Lake Nahargarh Palace (2019), painted a mural for the Byculla Wall Project with Piramal Art Foundation as well as at Burhani College in Mumbai. 
 
Viraag Desai works between his studios in Kolkata and Mumbai.
