HEART — Despite her originality and consistency, Reba Hore has been relatively under-recognized in the mainstream history of Indian modernism. Alone demonstrates the mature pictorial language of her later period. The figure appears to rise and disappear at the same time, delicately balancing intimacy and abstraction and translating emotional experience into a tactile painterly language.

SELF-INTEREST — This pastel reveals another side of Hore. She transforms quiet domestic rhythms into expressive compositions. Particularly compelling is her treatment of pastel not as a delicate drawing medium but as a material capable of depth, texture and painterly density. Her instinctive colour, line and gestural marks turn the familiar into a dynamic image.
