After a grand opening of a spacious address on the second floor of 16/2 Hemanta Mukherjee Sarani in Ballygunge last year, Art Exposure expanded to the first floor and declared the space open with 'Jogen Chowdhury — In Celebration'. Occupying both the floors of Art Exposure, the exhibition captured the life and work of the modern artist who has preferred to work mostly in pastels, watercolour and ink, evading a more favoured medium like oil painting, which he was good at too. Curated by Soumik Nandy Majumdar, the launch of the exhibition on February 16 coincided with Chowdhury's birthday. Majumdar made sure the retrospective introduced the audience to the artist's life and achievements with detailed texts. The 'wall of fame' recorded landmarks like his first public show at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1963, participating in the 15th Sao Paolo Biennale, Brazil, in 1978, displaying ink and pastel work on paper at the Chanakya Art Gallery, and more. It also listed the different awards won by Chowdhury, like Prix Le Franc de la Jeune Peinture in Paris in 1966, and many others that he received at both national and international levels. His trajectory with different mediums and exploration and influence in France were also displayed.
