Sometimes, it is the contrast that amplifies and provides a more nuanced perspective. It is this very element that makes Asim Paul and Surabhi Chowdhary’s artwork speak in a tone that is more profound to the eyes, in ‘Mark, Material and Memory’, at Art Exposure.

Asim’s canvas is dark, bringing in the blacks and greys of his emotion and pen on the white canvas. His drawings are abstract, dense, and the lines are whimsical yet following a pattern, trying to speak to the viewer and explicitly inviting them to interpret and connect with their own emotions. “My work usually starts as scribbles and then they take a form. I don’t have much control and I let my emotion do the talking on the canvas,” said Paul, who uses ink and charcoal and who has left the canvas open for viewers to interpret.
